The initial teaser for The Electric State hints at an exciting Netflix film starring Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, and a plethora of robots.

Set in a retrofuturistic version of the 1990s, the world of this film depicts a time when robots and humans have become estranged following a failed rebellion. Michelle (Brown), a teenage orphan, navigates a landscape filled with exiled robots and emotionally distant humans. Her journey takes an unexpected twist when she encounters Cosmo, a robot that she believes is being controlled by her long-lost brother, Christopher. For years, Michelle thought Christopher was gone for good. Filled with renewed hope, she and Cosmo set off on an adventure through the American Southwest in search of him, picking up a smuggler named Keats (Pratt) and some quirky robots along the way.

“I thought I lost everyone I loved, or so I thought,” Michelle expresses as she embarks on this perilous quest.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, The Electric State is adapted from Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel of the same name, published in 2018. This film marks the Russo Brothers’ first directorial effort since 2021’s The Gray Man, which also premiered on Netflix. The script is penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, known for their work on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The production of The Electric State faced significant challenges over the years. Filming commenced in October 2022 but was interrupted a month later due to the tragic passing of a crew member in a car accident. After resuming, the filming wrapped in February 2023, followed by additional reshoots in March and April. Reports indicate that the film has a substantial production budget of $320 million.

The Electric State will be available for streaming on Netflix starting March 14, 2025.
