Ten individuals, including a suspected shooter, were found dead following a mass shooting in a northeastern town of British Columbia on Tuesday, according to Canadian authorities.
Inside a high school in Tumbler Ridge, six victims were discovered dead. Two additional fatalities were confirmed at a nearby residence linked to the incident. One more individual died en route to a hospital. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported that the suspected shooter was also found dead, with signs pointing to a self-inflicted injury. Authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat or additional suspects involved.
The suspect might have been a woman, as an active shooter alert in British Columbia described the individual as a woman dressed in a dress with brown hair.
“Multiple injuries and fatalities were evident inside the school as officers investigated the scene,” stated police Superintendent Ken Floyd during a press conference. “The area is now secured, and investigators are working to determine the injury details and any weapons involved.”
Tumbler Ridge, a small town with roughly 2,400 residents, is situated in the Rocky Mountain foothills of northern British Columbia, about 717 miles northeast of Vancouver. An additional 25 people are being evaluated for injuries at a local medical center.
British Columbia’s Public Safety Minister Nina Krieger expressed sympathy, saying, “Our thoughts are with everyone in Tumbler Ridge. I’ve spoken with the mayor and local MLA, and we’re providing the RCMP with any additional support they require.”
