When it comes to the return of Coach Ted Lasso, Jason Sudeikis holds the reins.

During a recent discussion at MIPCOM’s C-Suite Conversations in Cannes, Channing Dungey, the chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, shared an intriguing update regarding the potential fourth season of Ted Lasso. While nothing has been officially confirmed, it appears that talks are progressing for a fourth season of the Apple TV+ favorite. The future hinges on Sudeikis, who seems to be warming up to the idea of continuing the series.

“We are currently having exciting discussions about season four, although it’s still in the early stages,” Dungey stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “From the beginning, we made it clear that there wouldn’t be more Ted Lasso unless Jason and the team felt enthusiastic about it, and I can assure you he is in a very excited and positive place right now.”

In August, Deadline indicated that Ted Lasso season 4 was close to receiving the green light. Warner Bros. Television secured options on three original cast members: Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins).

With the deals for this trio in place, negotiations for the remaining cast members and producers are expected to commence. This group includes Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones).

Ted Lasso was co-created by Sudeikis, Hunt, Bill Lawrence, and Joe Kelly. Originally, the show was intended to span three seasons. However, since Sudeikis has the final say on a fourth season, if he desires to continue the story, it will undoubtedly happen.

Debuting in August 2020, Ted Lasso features Sudeikis in the lead role as a former college football coach tasked with managing AFC Richmond, a struggling soccer club in the English Premier League. The show has become a tremendous success and is a flagship program for Apple TV+. Throughout its three seasons, Ted Lasso has garnered over 60 Emmy nominations, securing the award for Outstanding Comedy Series on two occasions.

You can stream the first three seasons of Ted Lasso on Apple TV+.
