About 80% of employees believe that artificial intelligence will influence their daily work routines. Millennials, especially Generation Z, show the highest levels of concern as companies increasingly adopt AI chatbots and automation technologies, according to a recent Randstad survey.
Demand for jobs requiring “AI specialist” skills has skyrocketed by 1,587%, the company reported in its annual “Workmonitor” study. The survey indicates that AI and automation are gradually replacing low-skill, transactional positions.
The report is based on responses from 27,000 workers and 1,225 employers across more than 3 million job listings in 35 different markets.
Why It Matters
Global labor markets are experiencing intense strain as companies worldwide continue to cut jobs, especially amid declining consumer confidence influenced by trade conflicts under the Trump administration and assertive foreign policy moves that have disrupted established global norms.
While AI tech firms are beginning to replace roles through automation, many businesses are still waiting to see substantial returns on their substantial investments in AI, which are set to reshape the business landscape for years to come.
Key Highlights
“Generally, employees are enthusiastic about AI but also somewhat skeptical,” Randstad CEO Sander van ‘t Noordende explained to Reuters. “Companies aim to cut costs and boost efficiency—something workers are aware of.”
The report notes that Generation Z is the most worried about AI’s impact, while Baby Boomers tend to be more confident and less concerned about their ability to adapt.
In Numbers
Nearly half of those surveyed worry that AI may benefit companies more than their workforce. On the business outlook, about 95% of employers anticipate growth this year, but only 51% of employees share this optimism.
