In the latest glimpse from DC Studios, Superman emerges as a hero grappling with inner conflict. Unlike in previous adaptations where he speaks to Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) as his civilian persona, the character, played by David Corenswet, engages in a candid interview as Superman.
“Lately, you’ve faced a lot of criticism,” Lois tells him. To which Superman responds, convinced he prevented a war, only for Lois to challenge him, pointing out that he unlawfully crossed into another nation. Faced with the heavy implications of his actions, Superman exclaims, “People were going to die.”
The poignant trailer captures Superman’s emotional struggles throughout the film. His well-meaning decisions carry repercussions that ripple through the world. While many see these choices as burdens, Jonathan Kent (Pruitt Taylor Vince) perceives them as blessings.
“Your choices and actions define who you are,” Jonathan shares with Clark during an intimate moment at their family home.
Additionally, the trailer spotlights Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), who is troubled by the fact that an alien has become the planet’s most crucial asset.

“He’s not a man,” Luthor declares in the footage. “He’s an ‘it’ that has inexplicably become the centerpiece of global discourse.”
Joining the cast of Superman are Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Frank Grillo, and Neva Howell.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman marks the inaugural film in the new DC Universe. Peter Safran, co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Gunn, takes on the role of producer.
The stakes for the DC Universe are high with Superman at the forefront. Its critical and commercial success is pivotal for the franchise’s future. Gunn’s track record for delivering hit films, such as transforming Guardians of the Galaxy into a multi-billion-dollar franchise, gives fans hope.
Superman is set to soar into theaters on July 11.
