Recent updates on casting for the live-action film adaptation of Street Fighter, produced by Legendary Entertainment, have generated buzz among fans. After a period of speculation, the casting choices are starting to crystallize.
According to Deadline, actors Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Roman Reigns are currently in discussions to join the project. Formal agreements haven’t been finalized yet.
The storyline for this adaptation remains largely undisclosed, although there was initial interest from directors Danny and Michael Philippou before they withdrew due to scheduling clashes with their upcoming film, Bring Her Back.
Kitao Sakurai signed on as director in February, bringing with him a wealth of experience from projects like The Eric Andre Show, Aardvark, Bad Trip, and Beef.
First introduced as an arcade game in 1987, Street Fighter has established itself as a highly esteemed competitive fighting game where players engage in a worldwide martial arts tournament. Memorable characters like Ryu, Ken Masters, M. Bison, and Guile have made the franchise one of the most successful in gaming history, with over 55 million units sold globally.

Prior to Legendary’s adaptation, Universal Pictures launched its own feature film version in 1994, directed by Steven E. de Souza. The film featured a notable cast, including Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel William F. Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li Zang, and Raúl Juliá as General M. Bison. Despite mixed reviews, the film earned over $99 million against a $35 million budget and later developed a cult following.
Each of the four cast members is no stranger to action-packed roles. Momoa is known for his portrayal of Aquaman in the DCEU and will appear as Lobo in James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe. Koji has garnered attention for his leading role in Warrior, a martial arts series conceived by the iconic Bruce Lee.
Centineo recently played a significant role in Warfare and portrayed Owen Hendricks in Netflix’s espionage series The Recruit. Reigns also appeared in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, but is primarily recognized for his legendary WWE wrestling career.
The film initially had a March 2026 release date, but has since been removed from Sony and Legendary’s schedule.
