A Russian Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft launched toward the International Space Station (ISS) on Thursday, carrying two Russian cosmonauts and one NASA astronaut onboard, according to a live stream of the event.
The launch was executed by a Soyuz 2.1a rocket, which took off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 12:28 p.m. Moscow time (09:28 GMT).
The crew consisted of Russian commander Sergei Kud-Sverchkov, making his second trip to space, along with fellow Russian cosmonaut Sergei Mikayev and NASA astronaut Christopher Williams, both making their first spaceflight.
Following liftoff, the Soyuz was programmed to orbit Earth twice before automatically docking with the ISS’s Rassvet module around 12:38 GMT later that day.
Once docked, the crew will board the station and remain there for approximately eight months. They are scheduled to return to Earth in late July 2026.
