The robot, employed since October 2023, threw itself from the top of a 2-meter staircase in an unusual act of self-destruction.

Details of the Incident

South Korea has been utilizing robots in various fields for many years. The incident has shocked South Koreans, who witnessed the robot spinning in one place before hurling itself down the stairs, resulting in its complete destruction.

The robot had several responsibilities at Gumi City Council, including transferring documents, providing information to residents, and promoting South Korean tourism.

Possible Cause of the Suicide

The robot was known for its tireless work from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., managing multiple tasks without breaks. Speculation suggests that work pressure might have led to the robot’s suicidal act, though the exact cause remains unknown and is under investigation.

The robot was manufactured by Bear Robotics, a California-based startup.
