Apple first introduced the distinctive “squircle” hump with three camera lenses on the iPhone 11 Pro, then moved away from it six years later with the redesign of the iPhone 17 Pro. Taking note of this evolution, OnePlus appears to be developing a different aesthetic approach for its upcoming flagship, inspired by some of Apple’s design elements but with its own twist.
Recently, a photo circulating on the Chinese social media platform Weibo has purportedly shown what the upcoming OnePlus 15 might look like. While it’s wise to remain cautious about the authenticity of this leaked image, certain design cues stand out as unmistakably OnePlus.
The image features flattened side rails, a square-shaped camera platform with rounded corners, and a metallic outline framing the camera lenses—all reminiscent of elements seen on recent OnePlus models like the OnePlus 13. The color palette also aligns with the brand’s recent choices. However, the triangular arrangement of the camera lenses bears a strong resemblance to the signature style popularized by iPhones, sparking speculation that the design may echo Apple’s aesthetic more closely than usual.
If not for the solid black background and the metallic pill-shaped accents, the phone could easily be mistaken for an iPhone at first glance. Historically, OnePlus’s leadership has expressed admiration for Apple, and the brand has often borrowed ideas from Apple’s software design. But this leaked rendering pushes that inspiration toward a line that may be too close to Apple’s signature style, raising questions about whether the company has officially approved this design direction.
Looking ahead, rumors suggest that the new flagship will come in shades such as Absolute Black, Dune, and Mist Purple. Beyond color options, the device is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, announced earlier today. More details about this processor are anticipated in the upcoming weeks.
Leaked information also hints that the phone will feature a 165Hz OLED display and boast impressive charging capabilities, potentially reaching 120W — a significant upgrade from the 40W charging on Apple’s iPhone 17 series. The battery capacity is rumored to increase to an astounding 7,000mAh, further emphasizing the focus on power and longevity.
Additionally, there is speculation that OnePlus may be developing its own imaging engine, especially since their collaboration with Hasselblad has concluded. As of now, the company has not officially confirmed any details about the OnePlus 15, so all leaks should be taken with a grain of skepticism.
Overall, while the leaks offer an intriguing glimpse at what might be coming, official confirmation will be needed to fully understand the final design and features of the next OnePlus flagship.
