Counting the letters corresponding to the number of items reveals a phrase: “You’ve been here for two decades.”
The revelation has been validated by Mateusz Lenart, the creative director of Bloober Team, on X (formerly Twitter). He expressed concern that the message might be “too difficult” for players to decipher, adding, “I aimed for subtlety in the way those photos were created.”
The significance of the hidden message might be interpreted in various ways. It could simply serve as a nod to the fact that it has been over 20 years since the original Silent Hill 2 launched on PlayStation 2. Conversely, it may affirm a somewhat popular theory suggesting that James is caught in a cyclical loop.
