Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday that the first day of Eid al-Fitr will be observed on March 20, Friday, due to the Shawwal moon not being visible in the country. The moon-sighting committee gathered after sunset to confirm whether the Shawwal moon had been seen, but it was not detected. An official statement from the Royal Court confirmed that Thursday marks the last day of Ramadan, and Eid al-Fitr celebrations will begin on Friday across the kingdom. Muslims worldwide mark Eid al-Fitr as the holiday following the completion of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
