Samsung is finally recognizing the challenges in its smartphone designs and appears ready to pivot in a new direction. The next flagship, likely the Galaxy S26 Edge, is expected to showcase this shift. Leaked CAD images suggest the design will be quite close to that of the iPhone 17 Pro, which may indicate Samsung is aiming for a more premium, streamlined look.

The most striking feature on the new model is the large camera bump at the back. Its design closely resembles recent leaks of the iPhone 17 Pro, shared by third-party accessory companies like Dbrand. Rumors indicate that this bigger camera module could allow Apple to incorporate more advanced imaging hardware, possibly giving the iPhone a significant photography advantage.

Samsung’s upcoming device is expected to keep a sleek, all-metal chassis, continuing from the Galaxy S25 Edge. Notably, the new model might feature an upgraded 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a significant jump from the 12-megapixel sensor on its predecessor. Despite packing in more advanced hardware, the S26 Edge is rumored to be thinner than the previous model—around 5.5mm compared to 5.8mm—thanks to innovations in internal design.

Another notable upgrade is the potential inclusion of magnets beneath the glass surface to support Qi2 wireless charging, a feature adopted by competitors like Google with its Pixel 10 series. This move would mark a step toward more versatile and faster wireless charging capabilities.

Powering the device could be a new Snapdragon 8 series chip, promising improved performance. The phone is also reported to have a larger 4,200mAh battery, up from 3,900mAh, despite the slimmer profile. The display is expected to be a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering vibrant visuals and smooth interactions.

Set for release early next year, the Galaxy S26 Edge will enter a competitive market that includes the upcoming iPhone 17 Air and other slim-profile smartphones from brands like Tecno. This suggests that Samsung aims to stay ahead with design, camera technology, and overall performance advancements, positioning itself well against its fiercest rivals.
