PTCL, Pakistan’s major telecommunications provider, has announced scheduled maintenance on one of its submarine cables to fix a fault. This activity is likely to cause disruptions in internet connectivity for users. The maintenance, managed by an international cable consortium, is set to start on April 14 and will continue through April 20, 2026.
The company stated on X (formerly Twitter), “A maintenance operation is planned on one of our submarine cables to repair a fault by an international cable consortium. During this period, customers may experience internet service degradation in the evening hours.” PTCL has apologetically acknowledged the inconvenience caused.
Last week, telecom providers launched 5G services in select areas after obtaining spectrum licenses, during a ceremony in Islamabad attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The government wrapped up a spectrum auction in March, selling 480 MHz for $507 million. Three operators competed for the coveted 2,600 MHz band, a critical frequency range for 5G deployment.
