Pakistan’s PTCL has announced that maintenance work on one of its submarine cables may lead to impaired or intermittent internet service. A spokesperson for PTCL explained that an international cable consortium has scheduled repairs for a faulty repeater within the submarine cable system.
The maintenance is set to start on October 14 at approximately 11 a.m. PST and could take up to 18 hours. During this time, users nationwide might experience slower internet speeds or occasional connectivity disruptions. The company has expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Recently, cellular internet access in Islamabad and Rawalpindi was temporarily halted due to protests by a political party. Pakistan frequently faces internet outages, often caused by submarine cable issues. Authorities have committed to improving connectivity over the coming months and have announced plans to introduce 5G networks initially in several key cities.
