The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an alert to the public about an increase in scam messages claiming to be from courier companies. These misleading texts often instruct recipients to input verification codes, which can lead to unauthorized access to digital accounts.
PTA advises users never to share any verification codes received through SMS or messaging apps, as sharing these can let cybercriminals take over personal information or online accounts. The authority clarified that legitimate courier services do not ask customers to enter such codes to pick up packages.
In its press release, PTA reaffirmed its dedication to protecting consumers from online scams and urged people to be cautious. They recommend verifying the authenticity of suspicious messages before responding. Banks also caution customers against giving out OTP codes to anyone claiming to be from the bank or central bank.
