Nine pig heads were found outside several mosques in the Paris area, prompting French police to open an investigation. Authorities believe there could be additional discoveries.
Police Chief Laurent Nunez stated on X that efforts are underway to identify the individuals responsible for these heinous acts. The heads appeared on public streets in Paris and three neighboring suburbs.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau condemned the incidents, labeling them as “outrageous” and “completely unacceptable.” He emphasized the importance of allowing Muslims to freely practice their faith without fear.
Chems-Eddine Hafiz, the rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, described these acts as “Islamophobic,” marking a “distressing new chapter in the rise of anti-Muslim hatred.” He called for increased awareness and nationwide solidarity to counter this dangerous trend.
France hosts the largest Muslim community in the European Union and has significant Jewish populations outside Israel and the U.S.
Since the escalation of the Gaza conflict in October 2023, several European countries have reported increases in anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic incidents, according to the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights.
