Two US Army personnel and a civilian interpreter lost their lives on Saturday when their convoy was attacked by ISIS in Palmyra, Syria, where they were engaged in counterterrorism efforts, according to the Pentagon.
Additionally, three others sustained injuries, said Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell.
The identities of the fallen soldiers and details regarding their units are being kept private until their families are notified, which is expected within 24 hours.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the assailant was killed by allied forces during the attack.
