A suicide bomber attacked a police patrol in Aleppo, resulting in one fatality and injuring two security personnel, according to a Syrian government spokesperson on Wednesday.
Nour al-Din al-Baba, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, stated to the state news agency Al Ekhbariya that the individual who triggered an explosive belt during the patrol is believed to have ideological or organizational ties to Islamic State (ISIS). The investigation into the attacker’s identity is still ongoing.
The terrorist blew himself up while being searched following suspicions raised during the patrol, as reported by Ekhbariya TV, citing security sources.
No group has claimed responsibility for the assault.
Earlier this month, two U.S. Army soldiers and a civilian interpreter were killed in Syria by a suspected ISIS attacker who targeted a convoy of American and Syrian forces before being shot dead.
