Nintendo Confirms Prices for BotW and TotK Upgrade Packs

According to an IGN interview with a high-ranking Nintendo official, upgrade packs for both Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are anticipated to retail for $10 each. This total of $20 for both packs comes as a pleasant surprise amid concerns regarding the overall pricing strategy for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Bill Trinen, Vice President of Product and Player Experience at Nintendo of America, provided valuable insights during the conversation about the Nintendo Switch 2. He disclosed pricing details for several games, including a digital-only release titled Switch 2 Welcome Tour, which is priced at $9.99.

Trinen elaborated on how the pricing was established, stating, “We evaluate each specific game, consider its content and value, and determine the right price for that entertainment experience.” He clarified, “For those who already own Tears of the Kingdom or Breath of the Wild, the upgrade packs will cost $9.99. Additionally, if you’re a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack member, both Zelda upgrade packs will be included with that subscription at no additional cost. Our overall strategy is to focus on content value and ensure we set appropriate prices accordingly.”

The addition of these upgrade packs to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription significantly increases its value, particularly for dedicated fans of the Legend of Zelda series. However, it’s important to note that the initial prices for both games have increased. If you haven’t purchased Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom yet, the prices for their Nintendo Switch 2 versions are set at $70 and $80, respectively.
