Photos of Donald Trump’s hand revealed fresh bruising on Thursday, sparking questions but the 79-year-old president dismissed health concerns, explaining he simply struck a table. Since returning to the White House last year, Trump has often been seen with bruises on his right hand, frequently hiding them with bandages and makeup. The White House attributed these marks to frequent handshaking and aspirin use for heart health, which can cause easier bruising.
However, images from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, showed dark bruises in a similar spot—this time on his left hand—while he attended a ceremony for his “Board of Peace” initiative. The photos quickly circulated on social media. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he caused the bruises by hitting the table and joked, “Take aspirin if you want your heart, but don’t if you prefer to avoid bruising.”
Earlier, the White House downplayed concerns, providing the same explanation for the bruising. Photos from earlier in the event show no signs of bruising on his left hand.
Speculation about Trump’s health has increased due to his age—the oldest person to assume the presidency—and various signs such as hand bruising, leg swelling, and moments of apparent drowsiness during public appearances. Last summer, his team revealed that leg swelling was linked to chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition where faulty vein valves cause blood pooling, leading to swelling, cramping, and skin changes. That condition can be managed with medication or procedures.
An unannounced hospital visit last year fueled further questions about his health, but his doctor later said MRI scans confirmed he was in excellent cardiovascular condition.
