Elon Musk announced on Saturday that X will publicly reveal its new algorithm within a week, sharing all source code related to organic and ad-based post recommendations. He added that this release cycle will repeat every four weeks, accompanied by detailed developer notes explaining the changes.
Earlier this week, the European Commission extended a retention order issued last year concerning algorithms and the spread of unlawful content, extending it through the end of 2026, according to spokesperson Thomas Regnier.
In July 2025, Paris authorities investigated the platform over suspected algorithmic bias and data theft, which Musk’s X described as a “politically motivated criminal probe” that endangers free speech rights of its users.
Last month, the EU fined X €120 million ($140 million) for violating transparency requirements under the Digital Services Act. The penalty stemmed from issues like X’s “blue checkmark” subscription, lack of clarity in its ad archive, and restricted researcher access to its public data.
In response, Musk posted an expletive under the European Commission’s announcement about the fine.
