Two neighboring four-story buildings in Fez have collapsed. Emergency search and rescue efforts are underway, with the injured being taken to the hospital. Fez, an ancient capital city nestled in northeastern Morocco, experienced this tragedy early Wednesday, resulting in at least 19 fatalities and 16 injuries, according to state news sources.
The authorities in Fez reported that two adjoining four-story structures in the Al-Mustaqbal neighborhood fell overnight. These buildings housed eight families at the time of the collapse. Upon hearing about the incident, local officials, security personnel, and civil protection teams responded promptly, initiating immediate rescue operations.
The injured individuals were rushed to Fez’s university hospital, while rescue teams continued their around-the-clock efforts to discover anyone still trapped beneath the rubble. Most of Morocco’s population, along with its key financial, industrial, and infrastructural sectors, are concentrated in the northwest of the country, leaving rural areas primarily dependent on agriculture, fishing, and tourism.
