Meta, the American multinational tech giant, has introduced Meta AI in Urdu for users in Pakistan, marking a significant move toward greater inclusivity and local engagement with artificial intelligence tools.
The announcement was made during the event “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation,” organized in partnership with Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), according to a press release from Meta.
“These initiatives aim to speed up Pakistan’s digital transformation,” the release stated. “Pakistani users can now interact with Meta AI in both English and Urdu.”
At the event, Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima expressed: “Under the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision, Pakistan is working towards a future where technology empowers every citizen.” She added, “Our collaboration with Meta exemplifies this commitment, promoting AI education, digital transformation, and innovation across government and academia. Including Urdu in Meta AI is a milestone that makes technology more inclusive and accessible—ensuring no one is left behind on this digital journey.”
Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, noted: “We aim to assist public sector and educational institutions in driving digital change through effective AI use.” He also highlighted the availability of Meta AI in Urdu, emphasizing how it opens new opportunities for the local community to connect with technology in their native language.
In addition, Meta launched a localized version of the guide “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama,” created with Deloitte and supported by MoITT. This guide details how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can improve government functions, enhance public services, and bolster data sovereignty. It features best practices and success stories from various Asia-Pacific nations, including Pakistan.
Meta also revealed the AI Literacy Program, developed in partnership with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp. The program will train 350 non-computer science university teachers across Pakistan in basic AI skills, preparing students for the evolving digital landscape.
Furthermore, Meta announced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025, a program offering Pakistani public institutions access to Meta’s technologies, solutions, and insights. The initiative aims to foster dialogue between public and private sector experts, sharing strategies for effective digital transformation, the official statement concluded.
