Even after expressing skepticism about superhero films, Martin Scorsese is assembling his own dream team for an upcoming crime movie.
According to Deadline, Scorsese is set to direct an untitled drama featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt, and Dwayne Johnson. The screenplay has been crafted by journalist and author Nick Bilton.
The film has been characterized as “Goodfellas meets The Departed in Hawaii.” At its center is a ruthless crime lord vying for dominance over organized criminal activities in Hawaii. Picture Robert De Niro’s character Jimmy the Gent from Goodfellas reimagined as a Hawaiian mob boss.
This drama unfolds during the 1960s and 1970s, chronicling the rise of the crime lord as he builds his empire. The narrative draws from a true yet lesser-known saga surrounding the battle for control over the criminal underworld in the Aloha State.
Producers include Scorsese, DiCaprio, Blunt, Johnson, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn.
The project has already attracted multiple offers from major studios, indicating a significant deal is on the horizon.

This crime drama marks yet another collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio. Their partnership began with 2002’s Gangs of New York, and has continued through six films, culminating in 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Recently, it was reported that the two are considering reuniting for a film adaptation of The Devil in the White City.
DiCaprio is also set to star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming project, rumored to be titled One Battle After Another, which is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on August 8, 2025.
Blunt and Johnson previously collaborated on the 2021 film Jungle Cruise and are set to share the screen again in A24’s The Smashing Machine, slated for late 2025 release.
