On Saturday, authorities reported the arrest of 212 individuals during a protest in Trafalgar Square, London, protesting Britain’s ban on the Palestine Action group. This marked the first demonstration following the High Court’s February decision declaring the ban—labeling the group as a terrorist organization—as unlawful. UK Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood is currently seeking to appeal this ruling.
The banned organization, Palestine Action, has accused the UK government of complicity in what it claims are Israeli war crimes in Gaza. The ban was enacted last July after some members infiltrated a Royal Air Force base. During Saturday’s rally, protesters—some donning black and white Palestinian scarves and waving flags—sat on the ground or on camping chairs while holding signs.
London’s Metropolitan Police stated on X (formerly Twitter) that they are “continuing to make arrests where individuals are supporting a proscribed organization.”
