A knife attack in the southern French city of Antibes injured a teacher and a student at a horticultural college on Wednesday, according to police. This incident marks the latest in a series of attacks targeting educational institutions across France.
The victims include a 16-year-old student and a 52-year-old teacher, who sustained serious injuries but are not in life-threatening danger, officials confirmed.
Expressing gratitude, lawmaker Eric Pauget, who represents Antibes, posted on X: “Thanks to the swift response and dedication of the national and city police, as well as the fire department, in this highly tense situation. This reflects the tragic rise in violence our country is experiencing.”
France has experienced multiple knife assaults on educators and students over recent years. Just last week, a teacher in Martigues, northwest of Marseille, was stabbed twice during a dispute in the staff lounge by a colleague. In June, a 14-year-old student murdered a 31-year-old teaching assistant in Nogent. Earlier in April, a 15-year-old girl was killed, and three others injured at a college in Nantes.
In response, authorities began conducting random searches for concealed weapons near and within schools in March. The education ministry has not yet issued an immediate comment on the latest incident.
