A 75-year-old woman has been arrested in Japan after allegedly admitting to storing her daughter’s body in a freezer for twenty years. According to police, they uncovered the remains of an adult woman within a deep freezer at Keiko Mori’s residence in Ibaraki Prefecture, located northeast of Tokyo. Mori, who brought a relative with her to report the situation, claimed the body belonged to her daughter, Makiko, born in 1975. If Makiko were alive today, she would be around 49 or 50 years old. Authorities noted signs of decomposition and plan to carry out an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Officers visited Mori’s home on Tuesday after she notified them about the body, leading to the discovery of the decomposed remains dressed in a T-shirt and underwear, positioned kneeling face-down inside the freezer. Mori was detained on charges of abandoning a body. She explained that the house had become filled with a foul smell, prompting her to buy the freezer and place her daughter’s body inside. Mori has several children, though authorities have not disclosed how many or what her other children might have said regarding Makiko. She has been living alone since her husband’s passing earlier this month.
