James Gunn is carefully introducing new characters to the upcoming DC Universe, and one of those heroes is Wonder Woman. Until recently, no details were available about Diana Prince’s future on screen, but that has now changed.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn announced that a Wonder Woman film is currently in the works and “being written right now.” This project is in addition to the earlier confirmed series Paradise Lost, which will explore the Amazonian warriors on the island of Themyscira prior to Wonder Woman’s emergence.
During an earnings call last month, David Zaslav, head of Warner Bros. Discovery, emphasized that the four most critical characters for the future of the DC Universe are Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman.

Gunn affirmed Zaslav’s remarks, highlighting the significance of each character.
“I think that’s accurate,” Gunn stated regarding Zaslav’s comments about these cornerstone characters. “He likely picked that up from something I said. While I wouldn’t limit it to just those four, they are undeniably essential to us. I feel confident about where two of those characters stand, while we are still working on the others.”
The two characters that Gunn, alongside Peter Safran of DC Studios, feels secure about are Superman and Supergirl, both of whom will have films dedicated to their narratives; Superman is set to premiere on July 11, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
As of now, there has been no casting for Batman or Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe, making it unlikely that Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Diana Prince from the previous DC Extended Universe.
As Gunn continues to unveil new characters for the DC Universe, this will inevitably pave the way for a team-up film. DC’s answer to the Avengers is the Justice League, featuring iconic figures such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Flash.

Gunn hinted that a team-up movie is indeed part of his larger vision, saying, “There is no Justice League in this universe… at least not yet.” He jested that his plans for the Justice League would align with his vision for the DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
David Corenswet, who portrays Superman, expressed enthusiasm about Gunn’s roadmap, though he intends to remain patient. “If Justice League is in the back of his mind, that sounds great to me,” Corenswet said. “I’ll keep it in the back of my mind and see how things unfold.”
