TEHRAN: Despite circulating reports of an injury amid ongoing conflicts with Israel and the US, Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is reportedly “safe and healthy.” The son of Iran’s president shared this update on Wednesday after hearing about the incident.
“I received information that Mojtaba Khamenei was hurt. I checked with some contacts who have connections,” explained Yousef Pezeshkian, a government advisor, via his Telegram channel. “Thankfully, he is in good condition.”
State TV had referred to Khamenei as a “wounded veteran of the Ramadan war,” but did not specify the nature or extent of any injury.
Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, the son and appointed successor of the longstanding Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has maintained a low profile since taking on the leadership role last Sunday. His public appearances have been rare, and he has yet to address the nation or release a formal statement.
According to a report from The New York Times, citing unnamed Iranian officials, Khamenei sustained injuries, possibly to his legs, but remains alert and is sheltering at a highly secure location with limited communication.
