– Iran’s top court has denied an appeal from a defendant, according to local media reports.
– The court has officially found Choubi-asl guilty of charges related to “corruption on earth.”
– There has been a rise in executions this year, with at least ten individuals hanged in recent months.
Iran executed Bahman Choubi-asl on Monday, according to judiciary news agency Mizan, which stated he was “one of the most significant spies for Israel in Iran.” Iran has a long-standing covert conflict with Israel, often executing individuals it accuses of espionage and aiding Mossad operations within the country.
Mizan explained that Mossad’s main objective in recruiting Choubi-asl was to access government databases, disrupt Iranian data centers, and gather intelligence on importing electronic equipment. The Supreme Court upheld the death penalty after rejecting his appeal on the grounds of “corruption on earth.”
Hostilities between Iran and Israel sharply increased in June, with Israel launching strikes inside Iran, including covert operations involving Mossad operatives deep within Iranian territory. The number of executions for espionage has notably increased this year, with at least ten recent death sentences executed.
