A troubling event at a hospital in India has ignited concerns over patient safety after a doctor assaulted a patient who had come in for an endoscopy. A video shared widely online from Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla captures the moment when the doctor forcefully hits the patient, despite attempts by bystanders to intervene.
According to India Today, Arjun Pawar had visited the hospital for an endoscopy. Following complaints of difficulty breathing, he was moved to another ward. Pawar’s family members allege that when they contacted the doctor, he responded dismissively and behaved disrespectfully. Tensions escalated into a heated dispute, which then led to the assault and subsequent protests.
The protestors called for swift disciplinary action, including the suspension of the doctor involved. In response to the uproar and widespread criticism online, IGMC officials have established a special investigative team to conduct a thorough, unbiased review of the incident.
