Honor has made significant advances in foldable smartphone technology, notably with its Magic V2 and V3 models. Its flagship, the Magic 7 Pro, surpasses the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra in various respects. However, hardware performance isn't the only factor to consider when selecting a new device. Software capabilities also play a crucial role, and Honor is finally prioritizing this area. During MWC 2025, the company unveiled a substantial $10 billion Alpha Plan designed to elevate its status alongside giants like Apple and Samsung.
What does the Honor Alpha Plan mean for you?

Honor's vision is to evolve from a smartphone manufacturer into a comprehensive “AI device ecosystem company.” This transition entails the introduction of a broader array of products—such as wearables, tablets, and laptops—with improved connectivity and integration between devices. The company has announced new partnerships with Google Cloud and Qualcomm to fundamentally change how users interact with their devices through AI. Over the next five years, Honor plans to invest $10 billion in this initiative.
Currently, Honor has revealed an assortment of AI features centered on enhancing the interaction between humans and devices. One demonstration highlighted an AI assistant successfully making a reservation at a restaurant while taking into account current traffic conditions and events in the Honor Calendar. While there’s no precise timeline for the international rollout, a launch is anticipated “in the near future.”

The Alpha Plan will also introduce AIMage, an innovative imaging technology brand that features an AI Upscale tool capable of restoring vintage photographs. This tool is set to launch this month for the Honor Magic 7 Pro and Magic 7 RSR.
Additionally, Honor is developing a new “ecosystem file-sharing technology,” enabling seamless data transfer between Android and iOS devices. Similar to Oppo’s O+ Connect for cross-platform data transfer, the Honor Connect app will need to be installed on iPhones to utilize this functionality. Honor’s AI deepfake detection technology is also expected to come to its latest flagship devices and foldable models soon.
Honor is aiming for the big leagues

By prioritizing cross-device compatibility and promising seven years of Android OS support, Honor's strategy closely resembles those of established ecosystems like Samsung and Apple.
In my observation, while Honor's existing device integration is functional, it requires a modern design overhaul to enhance user experience. The partnerships with Google Cloud and Qualcomm are encouraging, as Honor has maintained high hardware standards over the years but has struggled with software innovations. The Alpha Plan’s collaborations could prove pivotal in bringing these advancements together for an enhanced user experience.
