Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available for play on September 18 during the Game Worlds exhibit at the Australian National Museum of Screen Culture in Melbourne, Australia. This event features a selection of 30 significant video games. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the game, albeit in a limited capacity. This announcement fuels excitement about the anticipated release set for 2025.
If it’s playable in September, it suggests that the game is likely in a nearly finished state now. With only four months until the event, it’s improbable that developers could implement major changes, so we can expect only a brief glimpse of what the game has to offer.
Team Cherry, the developer behind the game, is based in Australia, making this location choice fitting. In a conversation with IGN, curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell remarked, “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced in 2019, it has been one of the most eagerly awaited indie games worldwide, and we are excited to feature this South Australian creation prominently at Game Worlds in September.”

The buzz surrounding this announcement has led many to speculate that the game could officially launch prior to September, even though a specific date has yet to be confirmed. Silksong also made a subtle appearance during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event in early April, hinting at a 2025 release. However, some remain cautious, as there have been multiple instances in the past where the release of Silksong was promised but ultimately unmet. In 2022, Xbox indicated that all games featured in its Valentine’s Day showcase would launch within a year, but Silksong did not meet that timeline. Now, three years later, the game is still not available.
With immense anticipation surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong, many consider it one of the most awaited titles of this generation, following in the footsteps of its predecessor which is revered in the Metroidvania genre. However, given the history of delays and missed timelines, a degree of skepticism may be wise until the game actually releases.
