The influence of smartphones on children and teenagers is well documented, particularly regarding mental health challenges, body image concerns, and exposure to inappropriate material, as well as issues of digital addiction. At MWC 2025, HMD introduced the Fusion X1, a smartphone designed to offer a secure digital environment for younger users.
This latest device is equipped with “integrated, operating system-level parental controls that guarantee a safe and age-appropriate online experience.” Parents can tailor their children’s app usage, monitor internet browsing, manage time spent on social media, and impose restrictions on screen time.
Central to these safety features is the Xplora app, which enables parents to adjust device settings and manage usage in real time.

Guardians will have remote access to their child’s Fusion X1 device, which also features an emergency SOS calling function. A dedicated School Mode restricts access to apps and functionalities, helping to minimize distractions during school hours.
Despite being aimed at a younger demographic, the Fusion X1 doesn’t compromise on hardware. It boasts a 108-megapixel camera and a robust 5,000mAh battery, ensuring all-day use. Notably, the phone also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack.

It features a 6.56-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Powering the device is Qualcomm’s entry-level Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, accompanied by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
In addition to the phone, HMD plans to offer “outfits”—modular accessories that can easily attach to the rear shell, including items like a Ring light, a rugged case that includes an extra battery, or a gamepad, utilizing a pin-based connection system.
The HMD Fusion X1 has a suggested retail price of GBP 229 (approximately $288) and is expected to be available around April or May, depending on the region.
