Every major network and streaming service is on the hunt for the next blockbuster series like Yellowstone. The western drama from Taylor Sheridan has become a ratings powerhouse and, with its various spin-offs, has established a sprawling television universe. In a bid to capture the essence of Yellowstone, Netflix is set to unveil its new Western series, Ransom Canyon, which has just released its first trailer.
In the trailer, Josh Duhamel’s character, Staten Kirkland, reflects, “In Ransom Canyon, everyone’s running from something or running to something.” Staten, a widower who is still mourning his wife, manages the Double K Ranch in Texas Hill Country. His peaceful life is disrupted as rival families vie for dominance over the land. Amidst this escalating conflict, Staten attempts to rediscover love with Quinn O’Grady (played by Minka Kelly), who returns from New York to operate the local dance hall.
With its themes of land disputes intertwined with romance, Ransom Canyon cleverly blends the gripping drama of Yellowstone with the heartwarming charm reminiscent of Virgin River.
Alongside Duhamel and Kelly, the cast features Lizzy Greene as Lauren Brigman, James Brolin as Cap Fuller, Eoin Macken as Davis Collins, Meta Golding as Paula Jo, Marianly Tejada as Ellie Catawnee, Jack Schumacher as Yancy Grey, Garrett Wareing as Lucas Russell, and Andrew Liner as Reid Collins.

April Blair is the creator, writer, and executive producer of Ransom Canyon, which is based on Jodi Thomas’ book series sharing the same title. The direction will be handled by Amanda Marsalis, David McWhirter, Meera Menon, and Michael Offer, and the first season will comprise 10 episodes.
This marks Netflix’s second original Western for 2025, following the success of American Primeval, Peter Berg’s gritty portrayal of westward expansion, which quickly became a fan favorite upon its January premiere.
Ransom Canyon will be available for streaming on Netflix starting April 17.
