WhatsApp experienced a widespread outage last night, disrupting service for millions of users worldwide. The problem prevented users from sending or receiving messages across both mobile and web versions. Reports started appearing around 7 p.m. in Pakistan, with complaints rapidly increasing within the hour. People in several countries—including the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, Italy, and the U.S.—noted that their chats weren’t loading and messages weren’t being delivered. The outage peaked around 8 p.m. in Pakistan, with over 100 reports of connection failures there, while thousands of similar issues were logged globally. Data from Downdetector indicated that over 80% of the complaints related to WhatsApp Web, pointing to connectivity problems in browsers. Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has not yet provided an explanation for the outage or a timeline for restoring services. The platform boasts more than three billion active users each month.
