Fortnite gamers will experience significant changes to how they earn experience starting in December. On Monday, Epic Games announced that it will streamline the progression system, enabling players to accumulate experience for all three battle passes simultaneously.

Currently, the battle royale segment allows players to gain experience towards the battle pass by engaging in any section of Fortnite. However, the same hasn’t applied to the Festival and Lego passes for Fortnite Festival and Lego Fortnite, respectively. This will change once the current seasons and passes conclude later this year.

These improvements aim to make it simpler for players to unlock rewards such as skins. Additionally, Epic revealed that pass rewards will soon be available for purchase directly with V-Bucks, but there will be a limit on the number of items players can acquire.

The Fortnite Festival Festival Pass will be renamed to the Music Pass with the onset of Season 6, which launches on November 2, while the Lego Pass will transition on December 1. Players will have the freedom to level up their passes through gameplay in any aspect of Fortnite, and both free and premium tracks will be merged into a single pathway. This means Festival Points, in addition to Battle Stars and Studs, will gradually be eliminated as their respective games transition to the new system.

This update is expected to make progress toward earning rewards more straightforward. With a unified currency and no restrictions on how players can traverse each track, they can earn experience from any part of Fortnite that they prefer.

In a blog post, Epic stated, “We hope this change encourages you to play where you want, how you want!”

Recently, Epic Games has implemented several changes to reduce some of Fortnite‘s more controversial monetization practices. However, the upcoming option allowing players to directly purchase items from passes shows a continuation of some existing strategies. Back in August, Epic announced that select limited-time items would become purchasable in the Shop 18 months after their battle passes have expired. These adjustments come as Fortnite makes its return to mobile platforms.
