The victims included a Tanzanian guide and a doctor, a Zimbabwean pilot, and two Czech tourists, the Tanzania National Parks agency stated in a release.
The crash occurred near Barafu Camp on the mountain on Wednesday, as confirmed by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority.
Reports from Mwananchi newspaper and East Africa TV, citing officials from the Kilimanjaro region’s police, indicated the helicopter was engaged in a rescue mission.
Mount Kilimanjaro stands as Africa’s tallest peak, reaching almost 6,000 meters (around 20,000 feet) above sea level.
The helicopter went down at an altitude between 4,670 and 4,700 meters, Mwananchi reported.
Approximately 50,000 tourists attempt to climb Kilimanjaro each year.
