Meta has started introducing Teen Accounts in Pakistan, adding this safety feature to Facebook and Messenger for local users. This tool, aimed at creating a safer, more age-appropriate environment for teenagers, was initially launched globally on Instagram.
With this rollout, Pakistani teenagers now join millions worldwide who already use Teen Accounts across Meta’s platforms. This step continues Meta’s ongoing commitment, begun last year, to improve online safety for young users.
The feature automatically limits the interactions teens can have, filters content they see, and encourages healthier screen time habits. A Meta spokesperson explained, “Teen Account protections were created to address parents’ main concerns by automatically restricting who their teens can talk to online and what content they access, helping ensure their time online is meaningful.”
They added, “While there’s always more to do, we’re happy to see Teen Accounts give parents more peace of mind regarding their children’s online experiences.” Starting as early as this week, Meta will begin moving new and existing Facebook and Messenger teen users in Pakistan into Teen Accounts.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, said, “We want parents to feel good about their teens using social media. We understand that teens use apps like Instagram to connect and explore their interests, and they should be able to do so free from concerns about unsafe or inappropriate content.”
He emphasized, “Teen Accounts are designed to provide peace of mind for parents. Since debuting on Instagram a year ago, we’ve added features like limits on going Live, greater restrictions in DMs, and improved safeguards to ensure teens are engaging in age-appropriate experiences. Supporting parents and protecting teens online is a responsibility we take seriously.”
