Billionaire Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual, is approaching the halfway mark to becoming the first trillionaire on the planet, according to a report by Forbes published Wednesday.
Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, briefly became the first person to reach a net worth of $500 billion as Tesla’s stock surged after a stumble in his political ventures, along with other financial gains.
As of Wednesday, his net worth peaked at $500.1 billion before slipping back down to $499.1 billion, according to the publication’s “Real-Time Billionaires” tracker.
Following him on the list, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has a net worth of $350.7 billion, while Meta’s founder Mark Zuckerberg holds roughly $245.8 billion.
Musk’s wealth journey began after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and leaving Stanford University. His first significant fortune came in 1999 when he sold an online publishing software company to Compaq for over $300 million.
He later co-founded the company that became PayPal, which eventually merged with eBay. After leaving PayPal, Musk founded SpaceX in 2002 and took on the role of chairman at Tesla in 2004.
