Contractors laid off by the famous company Duolingo as it expands the use of AI tools

The increasing use of AI has developed fears among individuals as companies are implementing the use of AI on a larger scale. Having said that, Duolingo the famous company has laid 10% of its workers after it implemented AI to carry out the majority of its tasks.

The spokesperson from the educational tech company stated in a statement that AI has now taken over much of the work that was done by the contractors previously. The spokesperson further stated that the job cuts weren’t a “straight replacement” and that this action and decision has not affected any full-time employee working in the company.

It is worth noting that the CEO of Duolingo, Mr Luis Von Ahn has been an AI enthusiast and was looking forward to testing the potential of AI. In an interview, the CEO stated that he believes the tech can revolutionize the world and that it has the potential to make computers better teachers than human.

With the evolution of AI, it has been noted that AI-powered tools have opened new paths for Companies to work on cost-saving options. It has also resulted in boosting the productivity of workers for a few tasks.

However, the fears are becoming real as workers can see the tech replacing them entirely. Freelancers have claimed that ChatGPT tools and other AI writing tools have resulted in a loss of work for them.

Fears are being instilled regarding the use of AI and the replacement of human force with AI in large-scale jobs and everyday business activities. Moreover, companies like Swedish Fintech Klarna have stopped their hiring and have started the use of AI-powered tools instead increasing fears in individuals.

Klarna’s CEO, Sebastian Siemiatkowski, called AI a threat to jobs across the economy. The CEO further stated that though he has no plans to lay off any of his workforce but he is sure the company would shrink over and then AI will be used to replace the workers who leave.
