Dubai is rolling out a new underground transportation system designed to ferry passengers across busy neighborhoods in just minutes, cutting down the time spent stuck in traffic.
During the 2026 World Governments Summit, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced a partnership with California-based The Boring Company to develop the Dubai Loop, an underground, high-speed passenger tunnel network beneath the city.
The initial phase involves constructing a 6.4-kilometer route with four stations, connecting Dubai International Financial Centre to Dubai Mall. Travel time, which normally takes around 20 minutes by car, could be shortened to approximately three minutes underground, relieving surface street congestion.
The pilot project is estimated to cost about AED 565 million and will be completed roughly a year after the design phase concludes. The full loop will span over 22 kilometers with 19 stations, costing nearly AED 2 billion, and will be realized in stages over three years.
