Dubai has advanced further in its move toward smart transportation. Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum arrived at the 2026 World Governments Summit in a fully autonomous taxi, officially signaling the start of the city’s driverless transit service.
Officials announced that 100 driverless taxis will start operation next month, representing the first phase of a broader plan to revolutionize public transit with cutting-edge technology.
These vehicles use artificial intelligence alongside sophisticated sensor systems to process data in real time, allowing them to navigate and make driving decisions independently without human input.
On social media, Sheikh Hamdan expressed that Dubai’s transportation future will be smarter, safer, and more efficient. He emphasized that the project aims to enhance residents’ quality of life and make transportation more accessible for everyone visiting or living in the emirate.
This initiative is being carried out by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), working closely with international tech companies as part of a larger strategy to implement sustainable and intelligent transportation solutions.
