Dubai Police have successfully recovered a bag containing diamonds valued at $300,000 (roughly Rs90 million) that was accidentally taken by another passenger at Dubai International Airport.
The incident happened when a Dubai-based diamond dealer, en route to a Gulf country for a trade exhibition, mistakenly picked up someone else’s bag after passing through security. The trader had a total of four bags, one of which held the diamonds. When he arrived at his destination and opened the bag, he was stunned to find clothes instead of the precious stones, Dubai Police reported.
He immediately returned to Dubai and contacted authorities for assistance. Using airport surveillance footage, Dubai Police quickly identified the passenger who had taken the wrong bag. That individual had already traveled to Bangladesh, believing he had the bag filled with diamonds. With help from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladeshi Consulate in Dubai, law enforcement managed to retrieve the bag from Bangladesh and return it intact to its owner.
The trader expressed immense relief and gratitude to Dubai Police for their prompt response, stating that their quick action prevented a significant financial loss.
