Traffic congestion in Dubai might soon become a thing of the past, thanks to a successful test flight of the city’s new flying taxi—an essential leap toward cutting-edge urban transportation.
The electric-powered aircraft, created in partnership with U.S.-based Joby Aviation, took off from Margham, an industrial and logistics area on Dubai’s outskirts, en route to Dubai World Central (Al Maktoum Airport), just prior to the Dubai Airshow 2025.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) provided an update to Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on the project’s progress. The initiative aims to incorporate air taxis into a comprehensive, smart, and eco-friendly transit network.
This air taxi is designed to be environmentally friendly and operates quietly, with a top speed of 200 mph (about 320 km/h) and a passenger capacity of four.
Officials in Dubai state that the next step involves conducting urban air trials before rolling out the service to the public in 2026.
Skyports Infrastructure is constructing the city’s first vertiport for air taxis near Dubai International Airport, equipped with two landing pads and modern amenities to support Dubai’s vision of seamless, sustainable mobility.
