Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the city’s transportation authority, has officially launched its autonomous taxi service, starting with a fleet of 100 driverless vehicles scattered throughout the city’s transit network.
The rollout kicked off in Umm Suqeim, a mixed residential and commercial neighborhood along Dubai’s Jumeirah coastline, as well as in Jumeirah itself, a high-end beachfront district favored by both locals and visitors.
These autonomous taxis are operated in collaboration with two Chinese tech companies specializing in driverless vehicle technology. Customers can access the service through Uber or the Apollo Go app.
Officials indicated that the fleet will gradually expand over the coming years to accommodate increasing demand for cutting-edge transportation solutions, aligning with Dubai’s broader strategy to adopt innovative mobility technologies.
