On August 20, reports revealed that Dreame, a Chinese company known for its robotic vacuum cleaners, is venturing into the drone industry. This move follows a recent rivalry with DJI Technology, a leading domestic drone manufacturer, which had itself recently launched its first robot vacuum.
Multiple employees have been recruited from DJI and Meituan, China’s top on-demand service platform, to join Dreame’s new drone project, according to sources cited by Sina Tech.
The company has also posted job openings for roles including drone navigation and modeling algorithm engineers, drone operations business managers, and other related positions on various job platforms.
Based in Suzhou, Dreame is seeking candidates with experience in business-to-business operations and relevant industry resources. Candidates should also be familiar with drone industry business models, indicating that the initial focus might be on the B2B sector rather than direct-to-consumer sales, as suggested by one applicant familiar with the company’s hiring criteria.
This strategic move is viewed as a response to DJI’s recent product launch, the Romo vacuum cleaner series, unveiled on August 6. Despite its higher price point—50% above competing models—the Romo series quickly ranked among the top three best-selling robot vacuums on JD.com, drawing considerable market attention.
