It appears that the Yellowstone universe is gearing up for another spin-off series. According to reports from Chron, a new show titled “Rio Palo,” with a current working title, is expected to begin filming in and around Ferris, Texas. This series will feature two characters returning from the original Yellowstone series, and given the filming location, it seems to be set in Texas rather than Montana.
A statement from the Ferris city government confirms that filming will take place at multiple spots across the city. They also noted that the production team has closely coordinated with local officials and law enforcement to ensure everything runs smoothly. The city’s announcement also indicates that Ferris will serve as the home base for the main characters of the show.
Despite the anonymous code name, “Rio Palo” might actually be a previously announced spin-off. The most probable candidate looks to be the new series focusing on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.
Sources, including Country Living, have mentioned that the filming currently underway in Ferris is related to the Beth and Rip story, adding that “Rio Palo” is not the final title. This information comes from a representative at 101 Studios, the company producing shows for Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone.
Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are expected to reprise their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively. Actor Finn Little is also set to return as Carter in this new series. The show is slated to premiere in November 2025, although filming is still ongoing, so there’s some uncertainty about whether it will be ready on time.
While it may seem unusual for a Yellowstone series set in today’s world to be based outside Montana, the franchise has occasionally explored locations beyond its original setting. Additionally, there’s an upcoming spin-off titled “6666,” which is expected to focus on Texas’s infamous Four Sixes Ranch.
As the development progresses, fans of Yellowstone can look forward to seeing familiar faces like Beth and Rip back on their screens soon.
