Another update has surfaced regarding Marvel’s reboot of *Blade*, and this time it’s coming from screenwriter David S. Goyer, the mind behind New Line Cinema’s original *Blade* trilogy.
In a recent conversation with Variety, Goyer shared that he’s been approached by several people asking if he could assist with the upcoming *Blade* film featuring Mahershala Ali.
“It’s amusing because about eight months ago—before the most recent setback occurred—I was constantly being told, ‘Hey, could you step in and help with *Blade*?’” Goyer expressed. “This came from friends, fans, and even social media users.”
Following this wave of encouragement, Goyer reached out to Marvel to offer his expertise.
“I wasn’t really considering it at first, but I had my agent contact Marvel and ask, ‘Do you need any assistance?’ They said, ‘We appreciate it, but we think we’ve got it figured out, and we’re doing well.’ But then the most recent issue arose,” he explained. “So, they haven’t gotten back to me.”
Since Marvel’s Kevin Feige announced Ali’s casting during the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, the *Blade* project has faced numerous challenges. Ali has remained committed to playing the vampire hunter, yet the film has struggled with various directors and writers dropping in and out. Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange were both initially on board to direct, only to depart later. The script has had several different writers, including Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Beau DeMayo, Michael Starburry, Nic Pizzolatto, Michael Green, and Eric Pearson.

What’s evident is that Marvel still hasn’t found a solution for *Blade*. The film was removed from its scheduled release in October 2024, with development officially halted earlier this year.
Perhaps Marvel should reconsider Goyer’s involvement with *Blade*, especially since he’s open to the idea.
“I might think about it because I have a fondness for the character, and it was where my superhero journey began,” Goyer said regarding a potential return to *Blade*. “Even though I’m largely seen as a DC person now, my roots are with Marvel. I would consider it; returning to that universe would be exciting. That said, I’m pretty much 99% finished with superhero work. I enjoy the films and keep up with them, but I’ve done plenty in that realm. Still, for nostalgia’s sake, I would think it over.”
Goyer’s next venture, *The Sandman* season 2, will debut on Netflix on July 3.
