The upcoming ChromeOS update is on the horizon, and the chromeOS.dev team has provided insights into the new features that will be included with the next version of the Chromebook operating system. The initial rollout for ChromeOS 134 is set to begin on Monday, March 17th. However, some features may be introduced at later dates.
The features outlined in the developers’ notes for ChromeOS 134 are captivating and highly functional, showcasing a host of improvements. Among these are enhancements to Google’s Quick Insert functionality, enterprise-specific features, expanded accessibility options, and tools aimed at content management. Here’s a detailed look at what you can anticipate.
Slow Keys
ChromeOS 134 continues its dedication to enhancing accessibility through new software updates. One feature, Slow Keys, assists users who need additional time for keystrokes to ensure accurate typing. This function is especially beneficial for individuals with conditions impacting their fine motor skills, such as tremors or arthritis.
Slow Keys allows users a delayed response when pressing a key, significantly reducing typing errors by confirming intentional keystrokes. In contrast, ChromeOS 133 offered a function called Bounce Keys. This feature prevented repeated keystrokes activating when they are pressed in succession, ensuring a smoother typing experience.
Student Data Transfer

Later in March, ChromeOS 134 will introduce a feature to assist graduating students harboring a .edu account. This tool will enable users to transfer their data from school-related accounts to personal Gmail accounts, moving content from Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail. School administrators will have the ability to pin the tool to users’ Chromebook shelves and send out notifications to ensure students can take full advantage of this resource.
GIFs with Quick Insert Support
ChromeOS 134 is enhancing the Quick Insert feature to enable users to rapidly insert GIFs into messages and documents without exiting the Quick Insert menu. Chromebook Plus devices offer a Quick Insert button on the keyboard, while standard Chromebooks can access it using a Launcher + F shortcut. This expansion is a welcomed addition to the Quick Insert capabilities.
Isolated Web Apps for Kiosk Mode
This new update will also include support for Isolated Web Apps (IWAs), which will serve as a secure app solution for enterprises. This feature enables administrators to efficiently manage IWAs and deploy content directly to devices through the Admin console, facilitating better control over public-facing kiosks and digital signage.
